Blueroot – For the Rest of Us
Blueroot is finally releasing For the Rest of Us this May. The record was born back in 2006 when Wes Pagano, Taylor Corbin, Ben Riess, and Ryan McCusker stepped into Hive Studios in Los Angeles with something to prove. They had just made some lineup changes after their first full-length album Holocene Epoch and were hungry to carve out a new sound. It didn’t take long. The songs came fast and loud, with a clarity and energy that felt right. They were making the record they had always imagined.
With Wes on lead vocals, guitar, and synths, Taylor dialing in textures on lead guitar and backing vocals, Ben locking in on bass and harmonies, and Ryan driving the rhythm on drums, the band found a new groove. There was something special in the room, and they knew it.
The sound is big and bold—raw rock energy with sweet melodies, funk grooves, wild guitar leads, and heavy beats. Every track moves with intention, yet each one can swiftly change with the tide. From the explosive “Completes the Fall” and “One Way,” to the slinky pulse of “Stuck in the Middle” and the slow burn of “Let the Truth Hurt,” the album captures the full scope of what Blueroot was capable of.
The album was meant to come out in 2007, but life pulled them in different directions. Blueroot eventually called it a day.
In 2021, the unexpected passing of Ryan brought Wes, Taylor, and Ben back together. The songs resurfaced with deeper meaning and a renewed sense of purpose.
For the Rest of Us is a tribute to their brother Ryan, to the bond they built, and to the music that still matters.
It’s time.
